"Audience is seated in a square. Inside the square - the dance. Nine dancers, sound track of eclectic Japanese music, no text, no video, no probs. For me, a research of new possibilities of movement, structure, organisation, timing, tension, relationship of audience-performers, humor, repetition, dimensions, virtuosity, stillness, emotional development, sexuality, slowness, unison, speed, improvisation, overstatement, understaement, place I never have been before ..." Ohad Naharin
Body, space and time – the pure motion of the human body is the essence of Mamootot. Dance is reduced to the essential elements, to the structures, organization and tension of the dancers, who are exposed to the observing eyes of the audience on all four sides of the open stage area. Emotional developments, pace, sexuality and the multifarious relationships the dancers develop to one another are translated directly by their movements and aimed right at the audience. An abstract game of tempi, forms and different levels of intensity. Ohad Naharin uses this game to whisk the dancers and audience away to unexplored regions.
