In an outburst of color, movement and music, Ohad Naharin and his devoted dancers (both the Batsheva Company and the junior Batsheva Ensemble, 40 in all) present a stylized, sophisticated and exuberant work.
Four gigantic screens on stage amplify in extreme and astounding close-ups the dancers' bodies, intermingling with the magnificent live action.
In this highway of sensory information, Naharin succeeds in sustaining a penetrating intimacy, leaving us awed by the soulful dedication of his dancers, their sparkling performance and incredulous technical skills.
“I enjoy the place where I cause the spectator to have doubts as to where to direct his attention. I scatter individual moments in which not everything can be contained, giving the audience a choice.
Our viewing experience has nothing to do with our ability to realize all the elements at once. We are not committed to containing it all. To say that you can - is an illusion”. (Ohad Naharin)
“Naharin’s joyous celebration is at its peak. He causes mourning and madness to dance, absorbed in amusement... with the crazy colors... in dialogue with the audience... Naharin’s world is coherent, more than we may be able to feel in our everyday lives. It’s apparent that Naharin celebrates something we miss out on every day, while we’re busy worshiping technology and our feet are tied. Naharin is a poet as much as a choreographer... He simply kills you with a smile”.
