ON STAGE7 MALE DANCERS

SUB presents itself as a study questioning the role of perception in dance performance. It is a pre-study in preparation for the trilogy for proscenium stages, Reeks van de Zintuigen, the 1st part of which, (The Casualties of Memory – working title), will première in the fall of 2009.

SUB, a work for 7 men, responds with full force to the thriving will power and rythmic complexity of Michael Gordons Weather One. The intangible is on the tip of your tongue and yet it cannot be put into words. The feeling of your own skin, your muscles and tendons, your life blood: what do you feel exactly? You cannot express it in words, this feeling is almost ungraspable , and yet it exists, this cannot be denied. You are in a wordless reality and try to take a distance to sharpen the view. As if in a foggy dizziness, new images appear, and it seems you can describe these by a new, non-existing word. And then it’s gone.

Choreographer Itzik Galili has built an oeuvre of more than 60 works showing a pioneering diversity. As artistic director of NND/Galili Dance (1997 – 2008) he created an eclectic number of works including: For Heaven’s Sake (2001), ME (2004), Exile Within (2006) and - the culmination of his fascination with duality - Galili Dance 10th Jubilee production: Heads or Tales (2007). Next to this, he has created for and worked with many other companies in the Netherlands and abroad, including Stuttgart Ballet, Ballets de Monte Carlo, Bayerisches Staatsballett Munich, Gulbenkian Ballet, Batsheva Dance Company, Bale da Cidade de São Paulo, and Het Nationale Ballet. Lighting plays an integral role in Itzik’s works; he has designed the lighting for the majority of his works and also received commissions for fellow artists.
