exposed and divided

XPSD is in two parts, where history and today is intertwined. The historical references were built around 17th-century and courtdancing. Some of these ideas are visible in the choreography of the first part and as small references and hints in the costumes.
From the start we all worked with duality in mind. We also knew that the work would be in two parts, divided with something…
We decided to work with a less ordinary dramturgical structure. We built the structure by backing everything back, by reversing things, flashback theories.

As always when Kenneth is making choreography there is a lot of movement, a lot of choreography, a lot of everything… You see the exhaustion coming, the dancers are struggling and pushing themselves to their limits of what they are cabale of. The effort should be visible. From that effort and tiredness the real persons appears. A beautiful moment of truth and honesty.

The costumes are made by Erika Turunen, who has been creating costumes for ballet and contemporary dance productions as well as operas for almost 20 years.
The music is by Jukka Rintamäki a rock musician who has expanded his repertoar by working with choreographers and making music for films among other things.
The light design is by Vesa Ellilä who has been working with finnish musicgroups and different happenings and installations.
