ISMAEL IVO

DELIRIUM OF A CHILDHOOD

“It is amazing that a dancer is able to provoke a flood of catchy pictures. His simple message from the natural, earth-based life is shocking, and makes us thoughtful. Long lasting applause is the reward for marvelous artistic of a body.”
Roland Langer, Frankfurter Rundschau 23.03.90

“Ismael Ivo, the afro Brazilian dancer from Sao Paolo is setting new standards concerning the physical presence and strength of a soloist. Ivo’s “Delirium of a Childhood” is a magic dream adventure, seven short and opposite journeys through merging inside worlds, which rise up a reality of an unknown intensity so far.”
Sophie Constanti, The Guardian, 07.02.89

“Is it a statue or a human being? This is the first question you ask yourself regarding Ismael Ivo’s “Delirium of a Childhood”… the snakelike movements of the Brazilian Choreographer seem to be the prolongation of his breath… Ivo’s various multicultural influences and his incredible physical talent are producing burning, fantastic, exotic art.”
Pat Donelly, The Montreal Gazette, 29.09.89

A BODY, A DANCE, A COMPLETE WORLD
Outstanding artist Ivo
…Only an outstanding artist like the dancer Ismael Ivo – born in Brasilia – is able to outline such a frightening childhood in his 60 minute solo “Delirium of a childhood”; a life full of privation, innocent liveliness, maternal desperation, childish invasion of the living space and visualization of colorful dream faces, he is able to fuse in a highly artificial body performance without sliding away to poor shock attitudes. In the sold out “Malersaal” of the Pforzheim Kulturhaus Osterfeld, Ismael Ivo captivated his audience immediately sitting on the pure stage floor, with blue makeup on his body, playing harmonica a long time lost in his dreams like a child. Then the naked body starts to become alive with rolling movements of his tightly embraced shoulders, the arms open to figure out the room with imploring expressive hands like on the pictures of Matthias Gründewald…
... the deeply touched and impressed audience rewarded the artist with long lasting applause for an outstanding artistic performance.
Sebastian Giebenrath, PFORZHEIMER ZEITUNG, 27.09.2004
