In 1989, twenty years ago exactly, we created our first work for Nederlands Dans Theater. The ballet was made in the space of the theatre called “Studio 2”. Ever since then all our works for Nederlands Dans Theater 2 without exception have been created in this room. Rather than focus on the whole fifty years celebration of this company, we have chosen to pay homage to this sacred space which has housed generations of young artists and choreographers. Approximately eighthy percent of our careers as dancers are spent in the studio. A room where we endeavour to improve our artistry and creativity.
It’s a place where emotions fly high, often a “home from home” as we leave our posts far away, and push into the present.
It is unfortunate that the walls, and mirrors, of “Studio 2” cannot communicate to us, as perhaps there, more than any other place, is where we would find the real history of what is the soul of this company.
