“My brain is always ‘on fire’, ideas, images, day dreams are all constantly f lashing through it, so, I am always in a state of mind which allows me to burst into the act of choreography. The deadline calls for order. I need to prepare for my first meeting with the dancers. Before I meet them I set rules and codes that are unique to the new process which would make the particular work different from the rest and hopefully take us to new places we could not even imagine exist. I love the music making and editing, before I meet the dancers I start the research of the sound track, this helps me to connect to the atmosphere, groove, texture, narrative and timing of the work. I like to play with movement alone, many times at home, all my works stem from the research of my movement language and the love of it. I never tell the dancers what to feel, you can’t… Yet I try to create space for strong feelings, I welcome those strong feelings and I let them influence my choices. The dancers are my colleagues, we discover the work together, what they offer is very meaningful to the end results. They are creative, intelligent, talented dance makers and the work depends and benefits by it. In order to be able to write the narrative of dance, the dancers and me are called for many tasks such as to find our delicacy, ability to let go, the use of explosive power, the ability to transform strong feeling into a clear form, and always to connect to our passion and the power of our imagination.” – Ohad Naharin
