“The world is one place with many offerings. The many offerings not necessarily connect to geographic connotations. I look for music I like, music that represent a unique artist more than a style or certain culture. I am drawn to its unique atmosphere, groove, melody, raw energy, beauty, economics, over the top, sensual, thoughts provoking, meditative, complex and the personal touch of its creator… A lot of how we experience moments in life and art are effected by points of reference. In many moments of life our thoughts and feelings are manipulated by what we are reminded of. I always ask of myself and my audience to not let a point of reference disturb me from fully experiencing those moments. There is a Japanese saying “Hyakubun wa Ikken ni Shikazu,” which means “Seeing once gives you better understanding than listening to an explanation a 100 times.” It is similar to an English saying “seeing is believing”. I agree with it, it has a huge relevance to my work, research and my life. I like when other companies in addition to Batsheva perform my work for the reason that when the works are performed they are always in the choreographic process, they constantly evolve and develop, it also enables me to meet many dancers and help them go beyond their familiar limits and help them to write their own narrative in the work.” – Ohad Naharin
