Inspired by the music of Antony & The Johnsons and the astronomical phenomenon of the supernova – an exploding stars in space that shine for sometime - Marco Goecke created this work in 2009 for Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. Supernova is a choreography of contrasts, where life and death, light and dark, are linked by the energy of each body. The dancers appear and disappear mysteriously from the stage and the sequences presents very quickly, precise and controlled movements to make the bodies vibrate. To Goecke, each movement can take place only once. "You can do it faster and faster and in the end it will hardly exist.
