Specially created for the Company, Odisseia is a journey, a reencounter with oneself. Inspired by immigration issues in today’s world, the choreographer has created a dramatic and poetic structure dealing with topics such as change, transition, departure, and the hope for a better life. “We are all sensitive to it now. It is a big issue worldwide”, says Joelle.
Invited by Inês Bogéa to create a work with music by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Bouvier explains that her idea was to mix fragments of the Bachianas Brasileiras with excerpts from Bach’s St. Matthew Passion; and at the end we listen to Maria Bethânia singing Melodia Sentimental – Pátria Minha, which contains a poem by Vinicius de Moraes.
It is a co-production with Chaillot – Théâtre National de la Danse, in France, and will be included in the SPCD international tour in 2019.
