Created by Marco Goecke when the ballet Firebird by Michel Fokine completed
100 years, during the Holland Dance Festival (2010), the pas de deux for Stravinsky’s music reshapes the Russian fairy tale about Ivan Tsarevich's fight against the magician
Koschei to free Tsarevna and his companions from captivity. "His duet also
can be interpreted as the meeting between the firebird and the prince, two
creatures of different natures: a dancing bird and a human who flies”, says
the German critic Volkmar Draeger.
Marco Goecke has been a resident choreographer for the Stuttgart Ballet since 2005. He has 40 choreographies for various companies around the world such as Hamburg Ballet, Norwegian National Ballet, Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and Leipzig Ballet, among others. Created Peekaboo in 2013 for the São Paulo Dance Company, which has in its repertoire Supernova (2009), also by Goecke. He received the Nijinsky Award in 2006, as one of the most important contemporary dance choreographers of the times.
