Created on the idea of new beginnings and the breeze of hope, PRIMAVERA (Springtime) is based on the music of the duo Palavra Cantada: 14 songs adapted for instrumental versions, in a range of musical styles sometimes quite contrasting – from light jazz to Afro percussion. The ballet, born in the pandemic, has the spirit of divertissement; it incorporates – and, in a way, embraces – the restraints of the moment: there are solos, duos, trios, and quartets in which the dancers do not touch each other, with the exception of three pas-de-deux in the performance of partners who are also couples in life.
Conjuring lighter times and seeking the sweetness of the season, the female costumes, monochromatic – yellows, greens, oranges, and reds – have very light skirts, that fly, over leotards; the male dancers wear close-fitting shirts and classic black pants. Real-time projections occupy the back of the stage, multiplying and amplifying gazes, gestures, and – why not? – the idea of new times.
