Using the human imaginary as theme, the choreography of Rodrigo Pederneiras uses an innovative dialogue, through the electronic sound track of Arnaldo Antunes.
In the accelerated rhythm of the movements, through agressive gestures, during the line breaks and by the arching of bodies, which try to move very close to the floor, Rodrigo Pederneiras develops new characteristics to this dance which goes from the “malemolência” (a slowness) to a robot like dance.
“The body is sufficiently opaque / in order to be seen.” The bodies dance while bathed by the stage lighting, created by Paulo Pederneiras. It’s a square of spot lights, which vibrates with the music as if it were a giant spectrum analyzer.
O Corpo transforms the stage setting into lights and the costumes into moving stage settings: they are like black sculptures dancing inside a red box. The bodies get new volume through Freusa Zechmeister’s and Fernando Velloso’s creations.
They form a gang or a tribe but their individualities are marked by movement and by their unusual costumes.
Arnaldo Antunes’ music is materialized through the dance and the dance add a new angle to Grupo Corpo’s history. O Corpo concentrates on the sum of the gestures, sound and light, thus bringing newness to the Brazilian essence of Grupo Corpo.
