BALÉ DA CIDADE DE SÃO PAULO

PRESS CLIPPINGS

FULL OF ENERGY AND TEMPERAMENT
The Paulistas were rapturously received at their premiere at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden due to a gradually intensifying programme, where each of the four parts lit its own, ever more sparkling fireworks.

PASSIONATE AND DEDICATED
The four-part programme could be entitled variations on love: an explosion of dancerly passion and dedication, full of precision and so powerful it could be felt in the stalls, hit the sold-out theatre. The audience was fascinated and spellbound, releasing the tension with spontaneous applause and shouts of “bravo”.

A FIERY START TO THE BREGENZ FESTIVAL
The Balé da Cidade de São Paulo returned to Bregenz open the Festival. South America’s largest dance company is renowned for its brilliant neo-classical technique, fiery temperament and unusual movement language, and displayed its enormous range and energy in three pieces by three choreographers.
In Dichotomia by Luiz Fernando Bongiovanni the synchronicity of quick, flowing movements is disrupted by dancers delaying figures by a few moments, or executing diametrically opposed shapes – an intellectual game against the backdrop of a chinking, clanging and whispering sound environment.
In Canela Fina by Catalan Cayetano Soto, 16 dancers move in complex interactions on powdered cinnamon to a repetitive, increasingly aggressive musical accompaniment. The audience was electrified – and even more so in Itzik Galilis A Linha Curva. Driven by four live percussionists, 28 dancers unleashed a feverish celebration of joie de vivre with ever new ideas full of wit and humour.

THE NE PLUS ULTRA
The performers of the Balé da Cidade de São Paulo opened this year’s Bregenz Spring Festival with three very different pieces, and received standing ovations by the audience in the sold-out Festspielhaus. A touch of spring, the fragrance of cinnamon and the elemental force of rhythm permeated the building.
