Wolves at Dawn, a creation by Julio César Iglesias Ungo, unfolds as a choreographic journey into the myth of the fall, the loss of paradise, and the enduring human desire for a new beginning. The work draws upon an African vision of Eden—an ancestral source subtly intertwined with Cuban cultural memory—inviting reflection on origins, displacement, and renewal.
Through a scenic language shaped by ritual imagery and carefully composed symbols—such as the sharing of an apple between two “naked” bodies or a ceremonial burial beneath black earth—the piece explores humanity in a state of exposure and transformation: its capacity to resist, to adapt, and to reimagine itself.
Within a refined and austere stage environment, anonymous bodies emerge and interact, shifting between collectivity and individuality, surrender and assertion. Voices, breath, and gesture extend beyond spoken language, creating a sensorial landscape where ritual and tension coexist, evoking both the birth of order and its continuous reconfiguration.
With a deliberately fragmented dramaturgy and the vital presence of a young and diverse cast, Wolves at Dawn unfolds as a physical and emotional exploration. Rather than offering definitive answers, the work invites the audience into a contemplative experience—one that questions our place within the perpetual cycle of loss, transformation, and rebirth.
