Musically as well as in terms of their dancing, the trio steps back a little from the exuberance of Cuban rhythms and harks back, rather pensively than stormily, to the past. To classical-romantic guitar music of the early South American virtuoso Mangoré, Laura Domingo leaves behind her ballet starting point and reveals the expressiveness of a free, neo-classical dance language shaped equally by beauty and intensive search. Two women and a man sound out each other’s individuality and the possibilities of a twosomeness or even a threesomeness, until they are separated again by darkness.
The choreographer, author and director was born in Havana in 1985. She studied at the art school Instituto Superior de Arte, at first classical ballet and later also acting. Like so many modern Cuban choreographers, she is very interested in European modern dance, and she would like her dance to generate a variety of readings: “for me choreography means the manifestation of an intimate and public rebellion”. For the Cuban national ballet she created among others the pieces ‘Igneos’ and ‘Dulce es la sombra’, and besides that worked for the Ballett de Medellín in Columbia. ‘Cenit’ is her first piece for Danza Contemporánea de Cuba. Laura Domingo also works as an actor; as an author she published the poetry collection ‘De invocaciones y otros límites’ and made a dance film with students of the Cuban ballet school.
