Dance, the quintessential art of the unspeakable, possesses the delicate power to unveil our fears, anxieties, and hopes, evoking them through movement. The duet, chosen to explore the theme of reconciliation, is drawn from Suivront mille ans de calme (A thousand years of calm will follow), a work imbued with a poetic and impressionistic sensibility, inspired by an assiduous yet non-literal reading of the Apocalypse. For the choreographer, neither in the original performance nor in the female duet adapted for Memorare 2024 should one seek direct references to the text of Saint John. Rather, the aim is to reveal, uncover, and highlight (as the etymology of the word Apocalypse suggests: to lift the veil) elements present in our world, yet hidden from our sight. And within the delicate interplay between the protagonists of the duet, the themes to which we allude emerge—both visible and invisible.
