HESSISCHES STAATSBALLETT
REPERTOIRE
Hessisches Staatsballett presents the diversity of existence in the double evening Horizonte. With the commissioned work The Butterfly Effect by British choreographer Alexander Whitley and Untitled Black by Sharon Eyal / Gai Behar, two contemporary dance positions come together that could not be more different in their aggregate state.
Inspired by the “butterfly effect” from chaos theory, Whitley creates a dynamic space for the flow of movement, which is sparked from the gentle flapping of the wing to the hurricane. The relationship between cause and effect is traced in spiral body images, which transitions beyond the stage into a projection plane with movement holograms.
In contrast, Eyal's unmistakable choreographic signature focuses on an atmospherically dense, energetically charged dance, which ecstatically pounds itself into consciousness to thumping beats. The futuristic-looking scenery resulting from the symbiosis of light, dance and music, with the bodies wrapped in dark, shimmering, skin-tight costumes, takes you into a parallel universe between departure and apocalyptic mood. Untitled Black was premiered in 2012 at the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and is celebrating its first rehearsal at the Hessisches Staatsballett.
Horizonte shows people in the mutual influence of spirit and matter, in the dichotomy of their existence as creatures and machines. In this field of tension of extremes, the dancers move between two poles that are connected in their incompatibility.
