Where is the boundary between physical intimacy and the expression of our soul, our personality? Not only is Shahar Binyamini searching for the nature of love, in all of his chore- ographies he explores the interplay between body, soul and spirit. How are they connected, what purpose has the body for a human being? Do feelings live in our earthly frames from the beginning, or will they only arise from our physical condition, from the body playing, through the sensations of our nerves? Do feelings change as a result of what the body perceives? The Israeli choreographer studied biology before dancing became his profession and is part of a research project with cell biologists. Shahar Binyamini danced for seven years with Batsheva Dance Company and is renowned world- wide as a teacher of Ohad Naharin’s Gaga technique. His new piece begins with a long line of lonely, self-immersed beings, from which an intense, strongly physical duo suddenly emerges. Binyamini’s dance may not provide answers but searches deeply for the essence of the human being. How much of the animal lives still in us, or are we souls trapped in a body? Perhaps Homo sapiens is already moving on to the next level...
